BLAKE NEELY is a composer and recording artist, whose work spans film, television, and the concert world. His music can be heard on countless television series, films and audio streaming platforms worldwide. His music has been recognized with an Emmy® award, seven Emmy® nominations, two Critics’ Choice Awards, and numerous BMI Film and Television Awards.
Born in Paris, Texas, he found music at the early age of four on the family piano. Encouraged by his teachers to learn the classics and write his own music, he quickly found a passion for composing. Graduating from the University of Texas in 1991 with a B.A. in Linguistics, Neely was ironically rejected by the music school. To this day, he marks it as the most important event in his education, inspiring him to teach himself and pursue his career.
Beyond the canvas of film and television, Neely‘s commissioned works for The Washington Ballet have been performed at The Kennedy Center, The White House and The Washington National Cathedral. He was the recipient of The Lois H. England Philanthropy Award in 2022 for his creative and artistic contributions to The Washington Ballet, The Robert C. Jeffrey College Benefactor Award in 2023 for the endowment he started at The University of Texas which supports scholarships for current and future students to ensure access to the program regardless of their financial status, and the Education Through Music–LA Shining Star award in 2024 for his continued advocacy for music education in public schools.
He has been a featured lecturer at the Sundance Institute, University of Southern California, Columbia College, UCLA, Hollywood Music Workshop Vienna, Conservatory of Music Puerto Rico, NYU, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, and his alma mater, The University of Texas. He is active with Education Through Music LA, The University of Texas, the ACLU, and The Arvo Pärt Centre.
